An Ascension Day Poem

From the heights,
to the depths,
wisdom descended for us.

Disrobed of majesty,
divine,
humbled for us.

Equality with God,
set aside,
not grasped.

Made nothing,
of dust and dirt,
yet love would last.

Living with us,
walking among us,
to show the way.

Healing the blind,
raising the dead,
paving a way.

From majesty,
to the Cross,
a destiny sure.

Betrayed, denied,
spit on,
enmity stirred.

Beaten, flogged,
a crown of thorns,
cursed to a chill.

But fixed on the prize,
with purpose,
ascended Calvary’s hill.

The earth shook,
darkness gloomed,
the veil torn in two.

A pierced side,
would prove his fate,
then placed in a tomb.

With the rising of the sun,
the third day,
the darkness faded.

The rising of the Son,
the third day,
triumph reinstated.

A presence felt,
sparsely appearing,
to only a few.

With eyes fixed above,
assuring of love,
his days here were through.

A token left behind,
to cheer the broken,
the Spirit for you.

Speaking hope in time,
through flaming tongues,
to Greek and Jew.

Greeted by hosts of heaven,
though leaving us,
the dove descended.

Leaving the gift of love,
would be enough,
wisdom ascended.
